A simple Valentine’s Day craft with a twist of geometry and fine motor!
I call it the “Butterfly” technique, because the two sides end up looking like butterfly wings 🙂
I love this technique because the kiddos not only get to paint with a fun tool that strengthens their fine motor skills, but they are always so surprised when they see how their creation has transformed!
You can get my heart pattern here – I say this all the time but cardstock works best because it can handle more paint without getting wrinkled or ripping 🙂
First cut out a heart and fold in half like this:
Choose your colors – remember the colors will be mixing so try to avoid colors that will create brown or black…unless that’s your jam then you do you 😉
For the eye droppers to be able to pick up and expel the paint, you’ll need to mix the paint with a little bit of water – I found it only took a couple drops.
Eye droppers are really cool because they use STEM concepts to work and fine motor skills to control!
Speaking of fine motor control – definitely use paint shirts for this and don’t be surprised if paint shoots around 😀
It’s a tough skill to master 😉
He seems to be gettin it! And having a blast at the same time 🙂
When the artist is satisfied, fold it in half and pat it down. I like to smooth it out really well so the paint spreads and covers as much as possible.
The big reveal!
Seriously, how much does that look like a butterfly? 😀 Beautiful!
