Green Pepper Shamrocks!

This is a classic that not only is art but also a fun sensory experience that, in my experience, gives some pretty hilarious reactions πŸ˜€ !

I love this face – it’s like “what did I just do??” πŸ˜€

Make sure you pick out a green pepper that has the right shape – when cut through the middle it should have a relatively recognizable 3 or 4 leaf shape.

Cut it through the middle so there is a top and bottom – I usually use the top for painting because the shape is usually easier for the kiddos to grasp (especially if there is still a stem). However, if the other end gives a better shape then go for it! Save the other half for the sensory later!

Next all you need is paper and paint!

I like to use yellow paper because generally I’ll be teaching both green (shamrocks) and yellow (pot of gold) during St. Patrick’s week.

Let the kiddos dip the green pepper in the green paint and go to town!

I love how each kiddo expresses themselves while creating art!

You have the ones who are obviously enjoying themselves…

…the ones who concentrate and take it very seriously…

…and the ones whose concentration brings out the tongue πŸ˜›

After they’ve painted with the green pepper, I sit them down and explain that we are going to taste what we just used to paint! I’ll show them the green pepper half and let them watch me cut it into bite sized pieces to help make the connection.

I love having them taste new things πŸ˜€ I get great joy out of their reactions…sometimes I enjoy it a little too much…so much so that one class had some kiddos that would just start laughing when I gave them new foods and refuse to try it like “nice try Ms. Jerica, but I’m not falling for it this time!” hahahahahahaha they know me so well πŸ˜€

This face says it all πŸ˜€

This is the face of “please don’t make me eat this” lol

“More for me!” she says hahaha

Meanwhile, this friend has decided to transform this sensory tasting to sensory touch by just ripping it into tiny pieces πŸ˜€

It’s alright friend! That’s still sensory! πŸ˜‰

Happy St. Patty’s Day!
