Our first stop on our Easter Journey with Jesus is Palm Sunday!
This is a classic activity, and I’ve included two different ways you can do it 🙂
Our repeatable phrase for this activity is “Hosanna! Praise Jesus!” (I’ve also used “Hurray Jesus!”)
(as I said in the main Easter Journey with Jesus post, I always summarize the main point of the story into a short phrase using words the kiddos already have some understanding of to make the story more relatable to them! I find this way leads to way more retention than trying to do a whole memory verse at this age, because even if they can memorize the whole verse, they may not understand what they are repeating back to you.)
The first way I’ve done this is by tracing their hands!
I did this one with 8 hands – however many you use make sure when you cut them out to leave a longer “arm” or “stem”. That will make it much easier to glue them together.
Just glue them in the arrangement that looks the most palm leafy 😉 and glue a popsicle stick to the back!
TADA!
He was pleased 🙂
The second way I’ve done it is using this activity for beginners scissors practice!
I gave them the cut out leaf with lines for where to cut and did hand over hand cutting practice with them since it was their first time doing scissors with me.
You can of course adjust their level of freedom by their scissor skills level 🙂
Then I just glued the popsicle stick on!
You can see I also wrote the word Hosanna on the popsicle stick so they would have another visual reminder of the word 🙂
And just as a bonus for you all who have read this whole post 😄
here’s a video of my friends getting to practice with some “real” palm branches!
Gosh I miss these kiddos! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
