The week before Easter, I always leave my kiddos with the cliff hanger – “What happened to Jesus?”
(I did this because we would always be closed Good Friday and I wanted to give enough time to the stories. If you’re following my curriculum, I’ve combined His last week and Easter week for those who are open the whole week or may be homeschooling – but you can save the resurrection cliff hanger for the last day of the week!)
They put Him “inside” the tomb, and they counted 1, 2, 3 days…what happened? Is He all gone? Is that really the end of the story????
I love making it a big surprise and seeing their reactions 😁
Here’s a look at one class’s reaction:
Needless to say they were very excited 😄
To make this one, I took a small styrofoam bowl that we use for meals and cut the top off.
I glued a picture of the tomb to the bowl and a picture of Jesus to a popsicle stick – so simple a craft and yet SSSSOOOOOOOO loud a reaction hahaha (click here for Jesus)(click here for tomb) both are pngs so you can make them whatever size you need
Another one I do is I took the “Jesus says I’m worth it all” page, and switched it up a bit so it would have a “rolling stone” that when you roll it either shows the cross and the closed tomb, or Jesus and the empty tomb!
Just cut out a stone circle and attach with a brass fastener so it can “roll”
Here’s a demo of how I did the lesson with some adorable audience participation:
I promise it didn’t take that many times in real life to roll the stone away 😂 but her reaction is so cute!
Then to finish out the day we had a dance party to this video:
Hurray Jesus!
