Need some more sensory or STEM ideas for your Fourth of July lesson plan?
Here are 4 easy ones to try!
First to add a little sweet to your day, make a simple DIY juice popsicle!
Not only can you employ the kiddos to mix and pour, but they get to see a liquid become a solid (and back to liquid in their mouths 😃)
Just mix and pour your juice of choice into an ice cube tray, wait until it’s slightly frozen and add popsicle sticks (if it’s still just liquid the sticks won’t stand up)…
…and enjoy in the sun!
Our little teething friend REALLY enjoyed this 😁
Next – playing with Pop Rocks! A treat that teaches chemistry while delighting two senses at once!
Pop rocks are basically just a gas (same gas used to make pop fizzy) covered in a candy coating! When the candy dissolves it releases the gas creating the popping and sizzling!
A candy you can taste AND hear!
Add some water to create your own delicious mini fireworks show 😄
Add some excitement to your party with a DIY confetti popper!
All you need is some confetti – I just cut up some red white and blue construction paper…
…a toilet paper roll and a balloon! Just cut the top of the balloon off and secure it to the end of the toilet paper roll (I just used a rubber band). You can dress it up like we did by gluing colored paper around it.
Add confetti, pull gently back on the balloon and…
This was his favorite…notice how he turns to do it directly over his sister lol
Lastly, there’s nothing better on a hot July day than a good ol splash day!
We did this center-wide with each class having their own scheduled time to play in a water table and a sprinkler.
It’s a great time to get the energy out while also using fine motor skills scooping and pouring…
…add some squirt bottles for an extra fun fine motor boost 😄
or add some water gears, funnels and wheels for them to explore engineering!
And if you’re sneaky like me and my fellow teachers…you can have some fun spraying them 😅
or chasing them with the spray bottles 😆
If you are a toddler teacher and your center does not do a splash day – I highly recommend. It’s a lot of work getting all the kiddos ready but as you can see…
…the cuteness is definitely worth it 😍
Still my favorite picture of all time 😂
