Handprint Wreath and Sensory!

Another adorable handprint keepsake just in time for Christmas!

Pair it with some evergreen branches like we did here or a wreath or two that is safe for them to play with to add not only a sensory component but also create a link between the object and the picture they just made with their hands! Those kinds of learning links do wonders for their developing brains!

Make a circle of green handprints (I’ve made some interesting oval wreaths by accident – if you’re like me and you need help making it an actual circle, you can lightly trace a circle on the paper to guide where you place the handprints ๐Ÿ˜€ )

Cut it out once it’s dry – you can cut in-between the fingers too; in my experience, it starts to look pretty uneven unless you’ve perfectly space every painted finger ๐Ÿ˜‰ so I’ve settled with cutting it out like this:

Choose something you can trace a circle from – I usually use dixie cups in class, but because I finished these at home I used a spool of thread ๐Ÿ™‚

Trace and cut out a circle right in the middle

Grab a hole punch and a bow – I get packs of these from the dollar store.

They have twist ties on the back that I thread through two holes to attach. You can also just hot-glue a bow on.

And voila!

Meanwhile, my kiddos were having fun with these evergreen branches ๐Ÿ™‚

Use as many descriptive words as you can think of while they are feeling their sensory items, and ask them questions about it – what color is it? Is it soft or prickly? Is it pokey? Where did it come from? Do you like it? – the more descriptive words you can include and questions you can ask, the more concepts they are exploring!
