Here’s a great Nativity art project for all preschool ages!
I love projects like this that allow each kiddo to make their own decisions about their creation! I always show them a teacher finished project and walk them through what each piece is and where it goes – but then when their turn comes, the pieces go wherever they want them!
If you’re doing this with older preschoolers, spend time asking them why they put each piece where they did – not only will you be enforcing critical thinking and spatial relationships, but you will also probably get a pretty funny explanation of why the animals HAD to go in the sky and a back story of what was going on in the life of the shepherd that day 😀
You can adjust their involvement with the project according to their age and skill level – with toddlers I do the cutting and applying of glue then let them decide where each piece goes whereas with older preschoolers, the whole project is up to them!

I did this project this last week and I had the privilege of doing it with an older preschool class with some of my old students and even the younger siblings of some kiddos I had as toddlers! <3
See if you can spot them 😉
Did you know scissor skills are fine motor skills?
All those tiny muscles they are using are being built up and coordinating together to do a complex motion which is making all sorts of great connections in their developing brains!
They are learning cause and effect, focus and control, and even a little STEM because scissors are a very simple illustration of a machine – there’s an axis or fulcrum, levers, and wedges that convert their action to a force! BAM! How’s that for checking off your STEM requirement 😀
Recognize my friend here?
If you can’t recognize her beautiful face…
…maybe you’ll recognize her concentration tongue 😉
Some things never change 😀
Another beautiful blast from the past!
Look at her!!!!!! <3
My heart is melting…
I had this buddy’s older sibling about 6 years ago!!!!!!!! 😀
It’s such a privilege to have seen these families grow <3
And TADA!
Come on, if you don’t come to my blog for the crafts you’re probably coming for these faces 😀
As always, display with pride 🙂
